2017
I haven't posted in a while, haven't I ? Well I decided to come back with a little something special ! Coming from a city where nothing happens, it was my first time to experience the runway and razzle dazzle of a fashion week . Since I know that Milan, Paris, Tokyo, London and New York are known as the fashion metropolis' I thought I should at least experience it once .

Joutaro Saito's A/W 16/17 runway

byU presentation
During this fashion week we were able to attend the runways of Johan Ku and Joutaro Saito . We were also able to see the presentation from the brand byU . These were all very varied brands but what made me glad to see was that each brand has their own charm and fashion about them, and these brands were extremely different to each other . Each one had there own sort of mission statement, style, even the venues were completely different in appearance . The runways were held at the Shibuya Hikarie, whereas the presentations would often be held at different venues .

I think the most fascinating part about each of these collections was the absolutely varying styles that they had . However at the same time they all used somewhat similar colours . The dark but muted colours that are the trend of the recent Winter and Autumn seem to still be continuing and are very much staying for the upcoming season to come. However colours such as maroon and navy blue weren't as prominent which I think was very nice to see (my wardrobe is literally dominated by navy blue and maroon, but wearing different colours would honestly be nice for a change) . Black and white are always a staple when it comes to fashion, however strong muted colours such as plum and rosewood are starting to become very rampant . Shades of gold and brown are also making a very strong appearance .

But the thing that I've learnt is, compared to Western culture, Japan has a very distinct style, especially when it comes to colour, and it's really interesting to see it show in the light of the fashion week . Japan's mainstream fashion is riddled with longer and straighter skirts than I'm used to, stripes (FOR DAYS), mega thick scarves, and turtle necks . However attending the fashion week it made me see that if anything defined Japanese designers-it was how well they complimented colours with one another . Colours that the Japanese use I think will always be the thing that defines Japanese fashion styles to that of other designers . The way they manipulate pattern, design and colour though is a familiar and wonderful thing though .

Johan Ku's adorable little selfie friend !
Apart from observing the differences of culture (even through fashion) it was great to look around the venue and see other amazing designers . One that I particularly enjoyed was MIDDLA . Their coats looked amaaaazing freaking loved it LOL . I have a thing for big, thick two-toned oversize coats and I'm glad that MIDDLA delved into it . Other notable designers were Alex Wenxin Lee with her poppy and electric collection, Jia Ru with dark but stylish designs that remind me a lot of Tokyo Ghoul, Gisela Febrina Junwono whose clothes just spelt absolute 'fun', and Chinami Murakoshi with her absolutely intricate eye for detail and pattern .

The fashion show also seemed to be riddled with VR everywhere ! Johan Ku's little selfie friend at the runway had the hashtag #JohanKuVR on it and its face actually consisted of cameras, which I'm pretty sure was making some sort of 360 view video . The byU presentation also had this sort of VR theme, whether it's because VR was some sort of sponsor or it's the new upcoming technology I'm not too sure, but I think it really highlighted the fact that Tokyo is such a high-tech city . In addition to this being said-did I mention that Tokyo fashion week is hosted by Mercedes-Benz ? Yup . Tokyo is your resident famous and high-tech city all right .

Anyway that was my Tokyo Fashion Week Roundup for Autumn and Winter ! I'll post in-depth about the events that we were able to attend so stay tuned ! I can't wait to experience the Spring and Summer season of Tokyo's Fashion Week too .

Signing out,
